Welcome to my first ever Blogger/ Influencer Guidepost!! I have been mulling over doing posts like this for a while and you know I will try anything creative at least once! Here is how to grow your Pinterest in a month!
I joined Pinterest in 2017 and when I did, I was completely confused about how it worked. It is just like twitter, the first few days confuse you like crazy but the more you poke and prod it, the more it gives you! Before I go on to give you 5 tips that can definitely help you grow your Pinterest, here is the 1 thing you need to not do with Pinterest:
- Do not treat Pinterest as a social media platform: It is not another social media platform like Instagram or Facebook, it is more of a search engine! Think of it as a more specific "visual google".
- Do not over hashtag it: This feeds into number one with treating Pinterest as anything but another social media platform. A maximum of 5 hashtags will do but do not overdo, Pinterest always tries to weed out spam like actions and excess hashtags can trigger a flag.
- Steer clear of follow-to-unfollow trends and all other Instagram habits! Followers and audience size do not mean the same thing on Pinterest as they do on all other social media platforms and will not contribute to a healthy audience for conversion.
Now with that out of the way, here are the things I did to grow my Pinterest audience and engagement :
- Switch to a business account and claim your site: If you are reading this, I assume you are a business owner, blogger or social media manager of some sort that is interested in driving traffic to your platform. If that is the case, a business account is a must-have. Not only to monitor the direct traffic from Pinterest to your website and see the trends of engagement, but it also gives you some sort of Pinterest Credibility. Yes, Pinterest starts to trust your links better if you have a business account (importantly claim your site) and the more you pin, the more traffic your pins will attract.
- Create Niche-Specific Boards: This is the most important step after claiming your site. You need to set up your boards to be as niche specific as possible. Think about what search terms you want to be associated with your brand or business and ensure that your boards are related to that as well. When I tell people about The Lotus Pure, 3 terms I always include are; Comfortable, Chic and Street Style ( or style for the everyday girl). I made sure to create Pinterest boards dedicated to fashion posts that fall into this category and when I started pinning other people's posts and popular pins in this category, my pins fit in and were well received. The aim of Pinterest is to reach a wider audience and you do so by blending in to stand out. So if you have a Board on a specific topic, try not to put random pins in there so as not to throw your audience off.
- Pin Daily: This is one of the view ways that Pinterest is similar to Instagram; it is a very needy platform. Most people will tell you that to grow on Instagram you need to post every day, and that is the same on Pinterest! You need to pin and re-pin every day! And I don't mean one pin a day, no you need to pin multiple times a day. In February when I decided to take Pinterest more seriously, I started with 30 Pins a day. These 30 Pins included popular pins, new pins, and my pins. I made sure to keep all my boards up to date and as you can see from the images below, my traffic began to explode around that time. Growing from 19,000 impressions to over 150,000 impressions. Currently, I Pin and re-pin roughly 50-70 pins a day, this includes new and old pins, with a 50-50 ratio between other people's posts and my post. If you do struggle with this, a good tool to try and automate your pins would be Tailwind I use this on weekends when I need a break.
Number of Monthly viewers in February at 19,000 when I just started pinning daily.Number of Monthly viewers in February at 41,000 when after a month of profile modification and continuous pinning Number of Monthly viewers in March and April at over 100,000 when I just started pinning daily.
4. Join Group Boards: I believe this might be one for one of the most popular tips out there but believe me, it works! Joining group boards increase the chances of your pins being re-pinned and more external re-pins means external traffic to your page and your website. The bigger the group board, the better; so let's say you are in a board with 50 people, out of those 50 people, if 10 people re-pin your pin to their boards, that exposes you to 10 new streams of traffic. It is important to join group boards that fit your niche as well, being as specific as possible will get you everywhere! I have not personally used it but I have been told that Pin Groupie can help you find group boards that suit your niche.
5. Customize Your Pins: To drive more traffic from Pinterest to your platform, you need to make your pin as attractive as possible. Make sure you customize your pins with a call to action and keywords. Canva is a great tool to use for banners and headlines. I have gotten most interactions from my pins with posters like this spring fashion post. Graphics are one good way to take your pin to a higher level and make your board more attractive.
